International Workers' Day - May 1

May Day is celebrated in Venezuela with tens of thousands workers marching with their colleagues. There are special cultural and musical events held as well as speeches from leading figures. The largest gathering in Venezuela is in Caracas. Revolutionary May Day is a spectacular scene with masses of people dressed in red, waving flags and displaying banners in support of the Venezuelan Revolution. Chávez customarily addresses the people encouraging and congratulating workers on their achievements.

The Special May Day Venezuela Bolivariana Tour follows the normal tour itinerary including participation in the May Day event.

May Day is celebrated around the world. It originally refers to an internationally-celebrated holiday in commemoration of the Haymarket Riot of 1886 in Chicago, Illinois, United States which brought about the 8 hour day. Today it is a celebration of the general social and economic achievements of the international working class and labor movement. May Day became established as the traditional socialist holiday during the 20th century; in these circles, the holiday is often known as International Workers' Day or Labour Day.
